Mr.
Kushell founded The Franchise Consulting Group in 1978, and as President,
has worked with a cross section of hundreds of companies in many different
industries. He has helped structure new franchise companies, consulted
with the management of mature franchise organizations and assisted some
of the Fortune 500 companies to evaluate franchising as a method of distribution.
He is frequently called on as an expert witness in franchise litigation
matters.
Prior to this, Mr. Kushell was President of Dunhill Personnel Systems,
a franchised network of nearly 400 personnel agencies located throughout
the United States and Canada. For 15 years, from the conception of its
franchise program, until the sale of Dunhill to TransWorld Corporation
in 1977, Mr. Kushell was involved in every aspect of franchising, including
legal, finance, marketing, operations and franchisee relations.
Mr. Kushell is a past President of the International Franchise Association
(IFA) and, in 1978, the IFA honored him as "Franchising Man of the
Year". He has since served on the Board of Directors of several franchise
companies, including Century 21 Real Estate Corporation, PIP Printing,
Entré Computer Centers and Protocol Message Management Centers
(a Bell Canada subsidiary).
As a franchisee, in 1985 he owned the rights to six western states and,
with a management team, developed and operated eight fast food operations
until they were sold back to the franchisor in 1988.
He is a frequent guest lecturer, and has conducted and participated in
numerous programs and seminars on franchising. He has written many articles
on franchising and is quoted regularly in a variety of major business
publications.
Mr. Kushell completed his undergraduate studies at Queens College.
